What is Da Vinci Xi

Da Vinci Xi is one of the latest versions of the robotic surgical system. Let's dispel the main myth right away: the robot does not operate by itself. The operation is performed entirely by the surgeon — seated at a console beside the operating table, controlling fine manipulators while viewing a highly magnified 3D image of the surgical area.

The system does three things a normal hand cannot: it translates the surgeon's movements into a scaled-down, tremor-filtered form, gives instruments more mobility than the human wrist, and works through several ports about a centimeter in size instead of a large incision.

In short: the robot's precision and maneuverability plus the experience and judgment of a living surgeon. The machine doesn't replace the doctor — it amplifies their hands.

Important: this does not mean the robot suits every operation or is always better. There are situations where open surgery is indicated. The choice of method is always the surgeon's, based on diagnostics — not a "default in favor of the robot."

Da Vinci is especially valuable where delicate work is needed in a hard-to-reach or anatomically complex area:

The robot and radiosurgery are not the same thing

They are often confused. Da Vinci is surgery: the tumor is physically removed through ports. CyberKnife is not surgery: the tumor is destroyed with focused radiation without incisions. These are different tools for different tasks, and both options are often considered in a single case — which one fits is determined by the board.
